Teacher's Notes Quarter Turn Half Turn Turning Game Revolutions

Key ideas
  • Turning can be either clockwise or anticlockwise.
  • It can be measured as a fraction of a revolution e.g. ¼, ½ or a complete revolution.
  • This activity will help develop the vocabulary:
    left, right, clockwise, anticlockwise, revolution and quarter, half and whole turn.

Equipment
Roamer card pack. Pencil and paper.
Roamer. 4 objects.

Set Up
On a desk or table top.
  • Card 1 & 2
    Place numbers round Roamer at 90o intervals.
  • Card 3
    Place objects round Roamer at 90o intervals.
  • Card 4
    Mark the start point.
  • Set angle unit to 90o.
    Switch Roamer on.
    Press
    Note: If Roamer is switched off the unit will revert to the default of 30cm and 1o of turn. Put a piece of tape over the switch to deter switching off.

    The Activity
    2 children.
    Repeat the activity several times.
    Record results.
    Do they understand the terms that they are using and are they using them correctly.
