Once the lessons of Electricity and Electronics are encountered so the
students thirst for manipulating that knowledge in a practical way. Control!
To support teachers efforts, be they at Early Learning Institutions,
Primary, Intermediate or Secondary schools, W.L.T. have sourced, evaluated
and researched a number of solutions for Control including Sense.
On the following pages you will be introduced to a number of useful devices
with appropriate curriculum support material ensuring a complete learning
approach to Sense and Control at any level of introduction.
Control Box
Code: #ED102 225.00
Control box allows students to bring their creations alive with
full control over robotic like actions. Schools can use their
existing models, sensors, motors and switches. It is compatible
with INVENTA, Tronix, Capsela, K'nex and some Lego packs.
It allows pupils to design their own robots and animate them
with lamps, motors and L.E.D.s. Using a variety of sensors,
Roamer also responds to changes in its environment sensing sound,
temperature, magnetic fields, moisture, light and touch.
The control box has four controllable motor, solenoid or light
outputs, two stepper motor controls + or -, one sensor port,
one digital counter port. Pack includes a comprehensive instruction
and activities booklet. An added benefit is the Stepper Motor
controller. This makes the Roamer the most cost effective classroom
solution when using stepper motors for control applications.
Motor Pack
Code: #ED119 135.00
This pack helps the pupil gain experience of motor applications.
It provides additional flexibility in the development of Roamer
characters and controllable robotic models for use with the
Valiant Control Console or SenSci. Not only will a Roamer character
be able to move around the floor, but also use movement as an
intrinsic part of the design, eg a helicopter with rotors that
whirl or possibly tilt and change pitch. Comes with Stepper
motor, 2 DC motors, 2 mounting brackets, 1 clip bracket, 24
screws-nuts-washers, 1 nylon spacer and 5 sticky pads.
Sensor Pack
Code: #ED117 135.00
Sensors bring Robots to life. Without them a robot is deaf,
blind and unable to respond to its environment. When a robot
has sensors it can be programmed to react to touch, light, sound
and heat. The Valiant Sensor Pack introduces students to the
ideas and technology involved in this exciting area of robotics.
Sensors also increase the scope for characterising the Roamer.
A Roamer moth fitted with a light sensor can be programmed to
search out a light. A Roamer dog on the end of a push button
"lead" can be programmed to go "walkies". Sensors present problems
and situations which challenge and extend programming, mathematical
and technological skills. They also open the door to a world
where robots respond to what happens around them. An important
aspect that introduces variables and responses to solutions.
The pack contains a selection of touch, light, sound sensors,
mounting cups and ideas booklet. Requires Control Box. Note: these sensors can also be used on SenSci and Control
Console.
Light Pack
Code: #ED117 135.00
With the Roamer Light Pack students may explore special lighting
effects, illumination and communication. They then incorporate
these ideas into their robot designs. Fire engines can have
flashing lights and cars can have headlights and flashing indicator
lights. The Light Pack increases the power and potential of
the Roamer. It also develops the children's technical and programming
ability in a creative and enjoyable way. Pack includes ideas
booklet, 2 of each red - green - amber - yellow L.E.D.s, Flasher
box, 2 lamps and 6 mounting cups. Requires Control Box.
Control
without needing to tie up an expensive computer. Uses same programming
language as Roamer.
Control Console
Code: #ED135 799.00
8 (6v) outputs, 8 inputs, 2 stepper drives and 2 encoders. Contains:
Control Console, Mains operated Power Supply, Activity Book
and User Guide.
Meet the Technology and Science areas of programmable sense and control
without the need to use a computer! This powerful, self-contained unit
provides control at a fraction of the cost of computer control systems.
Its portability eases classroom management problems; students can build
models where they want rather than where the computer dictates. Works
with INVENTA, Tronix and almost any low voltage (3 - 7.5vdc) electric
or electronic models, components and devices.
Using the same Logo-based programming language as the Roamer, the Control
Console can power simple mechanisms or those that demand far more complex
programming procedures, thereby making it suitable for pupils of all ages
and abilities. If required, complex programs can be down loaded to computer
for viewing, merging, saving and retrieving. (requires #ED1645 computer
cable and software).
The new system that combines innovative design
based on sound practical use with a price that defies belief. If you need
more inputs or outputs simply link two together.
"We have been asked to develop an adaptor for SenSci that
will allow less able pupils to use the system and provide a means to use
existing connectors. We are doing this at the moment. If you are interested
please e-mail for details." Dave Catlin, Managing Director.
SenSci Control Box
229.00
SenSci Control Box for Acorn
Code: #311
SenSci Control Box for IBM
Code: #310
Control Box with four outputs and four inputs, Software and
User Guide.
Power Pack 4.5 - 9 volt 0.5 amp
Code: #280 49.00
The new system from Valiant Technology that combines innovative design
based on sound practical use with a price that defies belief!
Using a computer with SenSci software, the student designs the programme
to suit the model on hand e.g. a lighthouse or buggy. (see screen shot
below). When the programme is complete, SenSci is connected via the serial
port then the computer programme initiated. If you need more outputs or
inputs simply piggy back link two together. As it arrives, SenSci supports
four inputs, four outputs and ports for connecting DC power supply (either
6v or 9v power packs or Tronix battery packs), input and tandem output
ports. Also supplied is the computer software, interface cable and support
documentation.
"The Adventures of Hilary"
Code: #312 179.00
Twenty one different activities in a program of study that takes children
step-by-step through control. Help Hilary command her faithful robot
companion, Oilyrag, to rescue the golden oilcan. Crack the code, light
the lights and foil the gremlins. Simply assemble the materials in
the pack to create the models to control or integrate them into your
own science and technology projects.
Contains: Activity Book, Teacher's Notes, Baseboard, 3 Lights,
Motor and Gearbox, 1 Buzzer, 1 Magnetic Sensor, 1 Touch Sensor,
8 leads, card models for activities.
