The Inventa system consists of a variety of different products. Each has an educational value in its own right, but together they provide a complete and powerful educational environment. PRACTICAL MATERIALS: A set of practical materials that integrate with each other and that actually work. Inventa is simple to use yet challenging in its applications and incorporates many unique benefits. One of these is the ability to integrate with recyclable materials such as cans, textiles, cardboard etc. CURRICULUM LINKS: Technology is examined within a wide range of contexts and suggested design and make activities encompass many learning areas within the N.Z. and Australian Science, Maths, Technicraft and Technology curriculum expectations. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - SUPPORT: The documentation and video focus on the development of Teachers' technological skills and knowledge as well as providing information on all aspects of technology from writing a school policy through to classroom organisation. Workshops offering teachers hands on development opportunities are run every term throughout New Zealand. (Check with your local teacher support centre or W.L.T. at 07 856 8478). CLASSROOM SUPPORT: Inventa includes many elements that support its use in the classroom. Activity cards are fully illustrated, design sheets help organise the pupils while the video ensures that they understand how to use tools effectively and safely. Most importantly, the text books (see descriptions in the Resources section of the catalogue) make technology accessible and understandable. Student users age range from six years to adult. Jaws. An exciting head gear mechanism. All the parts and patterns needed to make the moving pieces. The student designs the final appearance. Crazy Eyes. Finished model fits on to child's head and the outrageous eyes are mechanised using a rack and gear system. All components included. Land Yacht. Land speed records can be broken with this working model. Sail material or light card will need to be sourced. Merry Garden. Make a box with a window in it. Then mount a series of shafts, axles, cams and cranks. As the crank is turned, the finished model can become flowers in the wind, boats on a rough sea or planes in the sky. Spare components can be used in children's own design and make activities. Reamer tool included! Recyclable, found materials such as cans and lightweight card will need to be procured. Designed for the beginning teacher or for someone wishing to explore the system, the INVENTA School Starter Pack provides all the basic parts of the system. This pack contains sufficient componentry, design sheets and resource materials hints to provide the user with a working overview in the classroom. It will aid the inexperienced teacher to plan and develop a technology programme within their school, consequently assisting them to plan their resource needs.
