No matter what subject is being covered, Roamer® can bring to
life whole ideas of knowledge. By converting the abstract to the concrete,
pupils become actively involved with their own learning process.
Roamer® can provide the means to introduce students, as willing
participants, to the worlds of geometry, mathematics, science, language,
design, technology or to a full range of cross curricular learning activities.
Although simple for young children to use, Roamer® can also challenge
the most able, older secondary student. Its soft image belies hard technological
applications. Roamer® is also a low cost control device for INVENTA
or Lego models. (Requires control box).
Teachers find that because Roamer® is easy to use, flexible, robust
and totally absorbing, students quickly explore to fruition problem solving
tasks and activities. The simple Logo like instructions make complex
solutions a breeze to enter.

RoamerWorld Software
Code: #RoWorld 145.00
This a new concept computer program. It allows an activity to
be carried out twice, independently: in the abstract on the
computer and/or in a concrete way using Roamer. The results
can then be compared. Package contains 16 activities focused
on routes and journeys. Good student and teacher support material.
Students can make up their own programmes or journeys and save
them as problems for other students. The software has three
to five operating windows. One is the command window, one the
drawing or journey window, the other main one is the control
panel. Easy to install and use this software can be used by
students from year 1. Completed programmes can be down loaded
to Roamer. (Requires interface box and cable).
Suitable for Windows 3.1 , 3.11 , Windows for work groups and
Windows 95: 1.4MB Disc format. Acorn version under development
PC Interface
135.00
If you switch off the power to a Roamer or Control Console,
their programs are lost. The Computer Interface allows programs
to be saved at the end of one lesson and reloaded at the beginning
of the next. Students can print or save a record of their work
and displaying programs on a computer screen makes debugging
easier.
Programs can be added together to make more complex programs
using the merge feature. Difficult problems can be divided into
sub-problems. Solutions for each sub-problem can be developed,
tested and then saved on disk and subsequently can be merged
to create a finished program. #ED121 Acorn, RISC-PC, BBC. #ED120
PC DOS or windows compatible. Includes cable, software and instruction
manual.

The cards provide an opportunity for the younger children to
familiarise themselves with the different symbols and colours
before using the Roamer keyboard. Maths and program patterns
can be easily identified with the possibility of showing more
clearly, recurring procedures and repeating functions, thus
simply laying out some early concepts of Design Improvement
by introducing procedures. (Short cuts).
Roamer card games are easily adapted to most classroom situations
and offer an extra resource for pupils with learning difficulties
and also pupils who have advanced learning abilities.
