The Festival of Light. This Hindu festival welcomes Rama and Sita
out of the forest and celebrates the Hindu new year. It starts on November
9th and lasts 5 days.
Although traditionally small wick lamps are lit in homes in the hope
that Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth will bless them, strings of lights
are also acceptable.
A simple activity is to put up a string of lights and use the Control
Console or SenSci to turn them on and off or perhaps have them flashing.
Or create a mural of the story with individual lamps strung across that
can be lit independently. They can then be turned on and off in turn.
A more involved project could be to use Roamers to tell the story of
Rama and Sita (http://www.bl.uk/whatson/exhibitions/rama.html)
and create some scenery for them with sparkling stars in the sky.
