Pancake day is traditionally the day when you empty your larder before
the lean times of Lent.
A great D&T challenge would be to make a pancake tossing machine. Students
need to toss a "pancake" with an 8cm/3in diameter (a piece of card cut
to size!). Points could be awarded like in a diving competition with
the other children holding up scores for degree of difficulty, number
of turns and whether it landed back in the "pan".
You could also hold that other great Shrove Tuesday favourite, a pancake
race. Attach plasticine pancakes to several Roamers and plot a course
for the Roamers to travel. The winner is the first Roamer past the post
complete with pancake.
