roamer educational robot turtle

What is a Turtle?

A Turtle is a part of the educational software LOGO. It has both a virtual and a physical form. The software dictates the action and the physical robot simply does as it is told.

Roamer is not a Turtle, because it contains its own "intelligence". It is self sufficient and does not need a computer.

Value of Turtle Roamer

What value does a real Turtle have over a virtual one?

  1. The Roamer exists in the same space and time as the students
  2. The relationship between the robot and the student is tangible
  3. Geometry is expressed and experienced in movement, the same movements that the student could make
  4. Mathematical relationships unfold in a visual, concrete way
  5. The students socialise, jointly experience and communicate their mathematical experience amongst each other

Valiant is planning to develop a number of interfaces to existing accessible technology. Contact us and tell us what you would like to interface to and we will try and make it a priority . priority.

SEN RoAD Partners Needed

Though the original design impetus came from work in SEN, Roamer-Too has developed into a more general educational tool. Its current focus is biased towards mainstream teaching situations. However, Valiant remains committed to SEN issues. If we are to create first class tools for use in the area, it is essential we combine our skills with those of SEN specialists. We would like to encourage anyone in this field, interested in this project to become RoAD Partners.
